8 Great Party Games for Teenagers – Tried and true

party games for teenagers

Finding appropriate teen party games is often quite complicated. In this article, you can see lots of party game ideas for teenage birthday parties that every teenager will love. Here you’ll find both boy’s and girls’ teenage games, both 13 and 17-18 year old games.

One of the main difficulties consists in finding a line dividing cool teenagers’ games and the embarrassing ones.

The other difficulty is about trends, most likely you are not aware of what teenagers like now, so it is impossible to make up a cool game for a teenage party.

You should probably outsource the duty of organizing games to your kid or to your kid and his/her friends. However, you can use the article to help the kid with game ideas.

It would be great if your kid and his/her friends adapted the ideas to themselves and maybe included some features of theirs into the games and their names.

When being оn the party you shouldn’t embarrass your kid, too. For example, it’s not a good idea to clap the hands, to get everyone into a circle, and to treat the teens like small children in any way.

8 Great Party Games for Teenagers – Tried and true

1. Balloon Dare

party games for teenagers

Write down a task on the piece of paper and place it in the balloon before you blow it up. At the party, everybody pops their balloon (but one at a time), finds the task, and do it. In case someone doesn’t want to do the task, prepare the consequences which the guests have to do instead of the pulled tasks.

Be careful with the tasks: they mustn’t embarrass guests. Control all the tasks your kid wrote before they go to balloons. We recommend making challenging tasks like in Fear Factor, just less dangerous and exotic. Among the tasks could be doing physical exercise, eating something not really taste like a baby squad, and so on.

As for consequences, they mustn’t be embarrassing or humiliating, either, perhaps only excessively funny. Examples of the consequence are leaking off the cream from a plate without using hands, a drawing on the face of the birthday kid.

Besides, remember that the tasks and the consequences mustn’t ruin your apartment.

If your kid is under approximately 16 years old, such games as this one will be appropriate. Actually, it would be cool for even older kids, too, but for the tasks that have to be tougher and more grown-up, balloons may be changed into something different, a hat, for example.

As for purely teen girls’ parties, games similar to this one don’t work really well: it’s less funny and some girls might not appreciate such awkward activities.

2. Truth, Truth, Lie

party games for teenagers

From the list, this game can be referred both to fun games for 13 year olds

and 18 years old games.

On arrival ask guests to write down 3 interesting facts: 2 true facts and 1 false. During the party, each of them read the facts about themselves and the others try to guess what is false. A person, who guesses the biggest number of lies, wins.  To make the game more engaging, announce the prize for the winner. Everyone will play more diligently if the prize is worth it. The prize can be make-up stuff or a giant chocolate bar.

However, this game doesn’t suit the party where there are lots of people who don’t know each other.

3. Guess that tune

As for games for 15 year olds, this one is perfect. By this age, kids know enough songs to play. However, at 12-14, many kids can play, too.

Choose some amount of quite popular songs and play a little piece of their beginnings in order to guests guess what song is playing. Songs shouldn’t be overly popular but they shouldn’t be unpopular at all, either. If you think the task is too simple to do, play pieces from the middle of the songs instead or shorten the time of the pieces.

It is the kind of game in which it’s cool to play in teams (of 2-3 people for a small party).  You can enter a prize in the game to raise the competitive spirit of the guests.

If there are only girls on the party, games for teenagers with music should include songs that are familiar to girls, so not purely boys’ songs.

4. Winks

This one belongs to games great for the party with both teenage girls and boys, especially at a party with a big number of people. Though, it can be in the list of purely teenage girls party games, too. You make a circle of the chairs, ask girls to take a sit and boys to stand behind the chairs. One chair should be empty. The guy who stands behind an empty chair winks at some girl and she sits down on the empty chair. The boy standing behind her chair has to tag her shoulder, if he managed to do it, the girl stays sitting; if he doesn’t, he has to become a new winker. In case the proportion of girls and boys is different, just mix the pairs, so there is more than one pair of the same sex. This way, you can avoid bantering that might happen with division into boys and girls.

5. Wink Murder

Taking the following game to 13-17 year old birthday parties is a good decision because it is quite universal: there are no childish items, this is all about dexterity and observation skills. When there are only girls on the party, such games for teens as this one is often not so funny to play, so we recommend using the game only for mixed parties.

Each of the guests closes their eyes, you pick a murderer and inform him about it by touching his/her shoulder. The rest of the guests are detectives. Then everyone opens their eyes and the murderer starts to hunt, he chooses and kills the victim winking at her/him. The victim shows the death spectacularly. If someone of the detectives knows or just has a guess who the murderer is, then he/she shout the name out. If the detective is right, the win is his/her and the game is over. If the detective is wrong, he/she dies and the game continues. The murderer wins when he/she kills everyone except one detective without being revealed.

This game is similar to “Mafia”, but it has the advantage over it because players don’t have to close their eyes and do anything for a long time during the game.

6. Nail Polish Spin the Bottle

Game with nail polishes is one of the most suitable teenage girls sleepover ideas. Girls teens games like this are for every age.

Guests sit in a circle and lay the nail polishes in the form of a circle as well. The birthday girl spins the bottle and then paints one nail the color which the bottle had pointed to. After, another girl spins the bottle and paints her nail. This procedure repeats with each girl until all the girls get all the nails painted.

7. T-Shirt Keepsake

With the help of this game, the birthday kid (or everyone at the party) will get a souvenir reminding about the time which the children will have spent together. For the game, you have to buy one solid-colored T-Shirt (or as many as there are people at the party, according to the option you choose) and a few tubes of fabric paint. It is preferable that a T-Shirt is light because dark paints will be hard to see. The first option is that each guest writes or draws on the T-Shirt.  The second option is that at some moment during the party everyone paints T-Shirts of each other.

It is one of the cool games for teenagers girls, since it includes drawing, but it suites for mixed parties, too.

8. The Chocolate Game

Among the party games for teens of 13-14 years old, this one is quite popular. We don’t recommend this kind of party game for 16-year-olds and over, since by this age playing it might be not so funny.

We suggest you modify the classic chocolate game. There are 2 options like in the previous game. The first one is really similar to the classic version and consists in that everyone sits in a circle, a dice, a chocolate bar with a knife, and a fork are lying in the middle. The rules are the same: everyone rolls the dice one by one and if someone gets 1 or 6, he/she wears clothes and eats chocolate with a fork and a knife until someone else gets 1 or 6. However, instead of one item of clothing, you have a whole outfit, and it will be more fun, if you choose unusual clothes: from the 60s or 80s, for example. Thanks to a bigger amount of clothes, the game becomes more difficult, people start to panic more, and the game becomes more interesting and funnier as a result. The second version is that everyone divides into couples. Both of the couples need to get 1 or 6 to eat chocolate. When getting the same numbers, partners feed each other. This version allows to eat less chocolate.

This game reminds drinking games for teenagers a little bit, however, it includes not alcohol, but chocolate.

Last thoughts

In spite of how cool teenagers’ birthday party games are, your kid could want to just hang out without any games. You should not impose the teenager on playing games, it’s his/her birthday. Instead of games, you can suggest the kid celebrate the birthday in some cool venue with friends or with family. The kid can choose a place and the things to do for a teenage birthday independently.

Be careful because if there are 2-3 guests at the party, it’s great, but if the company is big, small groups can start to form, this way, a warm friendly atmosphere will be ruined. You should also be aware of the fact that girls can start gossiping and quarreling at the party, that’s why it’s important to create the conditions in which girls won’t be able to be mean.

We wish you good luck in the organization of birthday parties for teenagers!
